What Bernie did

I’ll soon take some pictures of how my hand looks four and a half years after the event.

Overall I’m reasonably happy with the outcome, however I do think that the choice of skin to transplant could been chosen better.

Problems I experience:

  1. 1)The skin transplanted from the back of my third finger (cross finger flap) doesn’t have any grip. Hence it is often hard to grip objects.

  2. 2)The skin transplanted from my forearm is hairy. This causes annoyance.

  3. 3)My finger is cold due to reduced circulation. I don’t notice this much unless it’s really cold. My partner notices it often however.

Possible solutions to these problems:

  1. 1)Transplant tissue from another portion of the finger to the finger tip. perhaps from closer to the palm on another finger.

  2. 2)Transplant skin from the upper arm which is more often less hairy.

  3. 3)I haven’t got a clue with this one. :-(

Of course I’m not a Dr and don’t know what the implications of these solutions would be. If you’re a medical student looking at this kind of stuff please keep it in mind as something to research. ;-)
